Under the hood

Three systems cause most diesel headaches. Tap any part of the diagrams to see what it does and how it fails.

High-pressure common rail

Modern Power Strokes squeeze fuel to roughly 29,000–36,000 psi depending on the year, then fire it through injectors that open several times per combustion event. Tight tolerances mean dirty or watered fuel causes expensive damage fast.

Select the tank, pumps, filters, rails or injectors to see what each one does and what goes wrong.

Signs to call Mike
  • Hard start, long crank, or stalling
  • Rough idle, misfire, or white/black smoke
  • Low rail pressure codes or “water in fuel” light

About Mike

Ford trained. Now working for you.

Diesels aren’t a side job for me. They’re the job.

I started with Ford Motor Company in 2010, and at 21 I earned my Master Certified Diesel Mechanic status with Ford. I’ve always loved working with my hands and understanding the physics behind how an engine makes power. That curiosity is what makes a good diagnostician.

In more than 16 years in the field, I’ve diagnosed and repaired light- and medium-duty Ford trucks every day, from Power Stroke diesels to Ford’s gas engines. These trucks keep getting more complex, with higher fuel pressures, more emissions hardware, and more modules talking to each other. I take every round of factory training available so I know the newest models as well as the old ones.

Over the years, more and more owners started calling me directly for help with their trucks. So I built MZK Diesel: the same training and standards, with a direct line to the person actually doing the work. I’ll come to you, or you can bring it to the shop.

Off the clock

Behind the bench

When I’m not under a truck, I’m at the rink. I’m a lifelong sports fan and the head coach of the Jr. Sun Devils 12U Gold for the 2026–27 season, with the Desert Youth Hockey Association, the Tempe youth program that plays out of Mullett Arena on the ASU campus. Same approach on the ice as in the bay: get the fundamentals right, show up prepared, and take care of your people.
